Stealing
Make the steps as appropriate whether it is Jane's lunch stolen from the fridge or serious embezzlement. Create an investigation team of a handful of trusted colleagues. Don’t share information about the ongoing scrutiny outside the investigation team. Consider involving outside counsel to help with complex investigations. Review records, collect facts and testimonies. Interview potential witnesses one-by-one, never in group, and have someone from HR with you. Don’t rush to judgment for false accusation demolishes trust. Be prepared and armed with evidence when confront the suspicious employee. Communicate openly to the rest of the staff about the case after it’s been concluded.
