Giving second chance
You may be giving too many second chances to your employees. Instead, work on being more demanding and realistic about in your view of people. Make effort to provide feedback of an employee who makes mistakes repeatedly. Avoid letting it go „just this time”. Stay focused on the need to improve performance, rather than on why it may be happening. Keep the „monkey” (responsibility) on your employee’s shoulder. Do not get distracted or back down by excuses and push-backs. Get a commitment from him to change the behavior in specific way and by deadline. Follow up, make sure he meets all expectations. Praise him for delivering on his commitment.
