Failing to inform HR
Don’t miss out the opportunity of HR being present in termination meetings. Let the HR rep lead the conversation, thereby help (yourself) to deflect the high emotions that are likely to arise. Get HR do the paperwork, ensuring that all legal requirements are met. Charge HR to get the employer’s property back. Have an HR person on hand to answer questions the departing employee may have. Make HR notify other employees as soon as the termination process is completed. Remember, HR may also help you next time, when you would be the subject of dismissal.
