Dealing with personal issues
Remember you’re the Boss not a therapist. Listen respectfully, but don’t offer your shoulder to cry on. Keep the conversations as professional as possible and steer the employee away from divulging too much. Give the employee a few personal days to sort it out, or adjust a schedule. Communicate with the rest of your team. Explain what the plan is and that everything is under control. Don’t reveal details about the employee’s crisis. Establish timeline and check in regularly with the employee. Assume the problem isn’t at home only, confront the work related issues head-on.
