Implementing mass dismissal
It is emotionally draining to implement mass dismissal. Remember that it was not you who made the layoff decision (if so). Communicate with utmost empathy but don’t pamper the people involved. Ensure people understand what is important for them before asking to consent. Get the documents properly signed and keep them safe. Be prepared for emotional reactions from tears to outrage. Always have another person, preferably from HR, in the room with you witnessing. Deliver authentic communication to the staying employees as soon as the termination processes are completed.
