Firing remote employee
You can now practice firing someone in virtual reality. However, don’t mix VR with real life. Make sure a member of your HR team is present on the call with you (introduce the rep). Begin with the news that the company is parting ways with the employee. Give him an invitation to respond. Reiterate that the company has agreed this is the best decision for both parties. Inform the employee about the follow-up email with all the paperwork. Thank him for his services to the company and wish him the very best in his future endeavors. Don't linger too much, bring the conversation to a close. Act compassionately for there is a fellow human being, not an algorithm, at the other end of the line.
