Working for a micro-manager
Let him do your job. The micro-manager feels secure whether and when he corrects the tiniest mistakes or details of your work, or approves the most insignificant next step. Thank him for his help. Take advantage of his effort in double-checking your results. In case your mistake passes his attention, he will hardly be able to blame you. Remind him that you invariably appreciate his support. Assume what he needs. Inform him about all the details, dump information on him. Use the communication style and channel of his preference. Be healthily paranoid by making notes for yourself about your encounters with him and retain all your correspondences. Manage his expectations to expect less from you. Pretend that you are not (yet) competent in certain tasks. Prove your willingness to develop by delivering great results in those task occasionally. Do not say no to assignments but return to him with a half-solution, so you did your "utmost". It is likely that he will either do it for you or delegate that to someone else. Help him be more busy. Recommend projects that would help his career. Let him take credit for some of your achievements and praise his results for his own boss.
