Doing the wrong thing
Reflect first on whether it is truly wrong and why before responding. Focus on whether or not the request is actually wrong, not on your boss’ motive. Resist the temptation to immediately react. Respond to what is truly wrong about what you are being asked to do. Get your emotions out of the way to let your principles guide your actions. Make your case and stand your ground. Remember, most situations can be resolved by getting into the details. Explain why you disagree. Tie it to a key principle that gives you the best chance to move the conversation from confrontational to productive.
