Going through hard times
When somebody has to be laid off, make sure it is not you. Enthusiastically and frequently communicate what you are planning, working on and achieving to key stakeholders and potential sponsors and mentors. Present yourself as appropriately optimistic and unflappable. Identify people at work who can help you, cultivate relationships with those, seek and appreciate their advice. Inform stakeholders of successes and credit them for any role they played. Make others feel good in your presence, even when you disagree with them. Could your job be combined with someone else's? As always and everybody's could. Find out if you have a rival. Listen to the messages coming over the grapevine. Your rival may already have made a preventive move or an attack on you. Learn about his strategy and how committed (desperate) he is. Try to compare your supportive network with the one of him, target his swaying supporters and make them taking side for you. Remind yourself that the hard time you are going through is temporary indeed.
