Asking for a raise
Lack of preparation can cost you when entering into a discussion with your boss about increasing your wages. You have to know what you're worth in the job market. With this knowledge, you won't settle for too little, nor will you embarrass yourself by asking for an outlandish amount. Be sure to go into your discussion armed with reasons why you deserve a raise. Prepare a presentation that elaborates on your accomplishments and the goals you plan to achieve in the future. Your objective is to sell your boss on why you're worth the extra money you're asking. Never give a personal reason for your needs for a higher salary. These are not valid reasons to receive a pay raise. Don't underestimate your worth, lean toward the high side. Once you set your price, you can't ask for more but you can always come down.
