Dropping names during job interview
Wait to share names until you’ve created sufficient rapport. Remember that context matters the most, name-drop only in response to a question. Don’t drop too many names, use your ammunition sparingly. Keep it authentic, don’t brag about how many mutual connections you have. Don’t forget that any name that you mention becomes a quick and easy reference check. Make sure the interviewer thinks favorably of the name you dropped. Don’t introduce yourself as a network fanatic, or someone who is preoccupied with power or prestige (even if you are).
