Making small talk at work
Get out there and small talk. Let others speak first. Always address someone with her correct title until you are invited to call her by her first name. Compliment the person you are talking to. Don’t correct your boss even it is a small talk. Keep your questions open-ended. Lighten things up for people are more open conversing when relaxed. Avoid topics or words that are emotionally loaded. Use subjects that are proven to work (pets, latest movies, hobbies). Use the setting to revive discussion. Remember not to talk over the other person, apologize when you interrupt. Never tell a joke you don’t fully understand. Retreat politely when you’ve had enough of the conversation.
