Schmoozing

Schmoozing is a way of life in the workplace. Take genuine interest in people. Strike up conversations when you don’t have to and take them further than is required. Be generous, don’t just focus on what you can gain, don’t explicitly ask for favors. Put others at ease, be social first. Pay attention to details, be curious and patient. Become a pro listener. Try to remember names, spouses’ names, kids’ names, number and type of pets, and their names (ouch!). Find out at least one interesting thing about the other person. Put follow up questions showing that you’ve listened.
